The U.K. stock market concluded the week with a mixed performance on Friday. The FTSE 100 Index UKX closed at 7,291.28, down 0.86%.

Declines in Banking Sector

Among the FTSE 100 constituents, NatWest Group PLC NWG recorded the largest drop, with shares plummeting by 11.56%. Lloyds Banking Group PLC LLOY and Intertek Group PLC ITRK also experienced declines, shedding 3.44% and 3.00% respectively.

Pharmaceuticals and Beverages See Decreases

GSK PLC GSK, a prominent pharmaceuticals company, and Diageo PLC DGE, known for its beverages, rounded out the top five largest decreases as their stocks declined by 2.79% and 2.72% respectively.

Positive Performance in Diversified and Precious Metals Sector

Rentokil Initial PLC RTO, a diversified business services company, saw the largest increase among the FTSE 100 constituents, with shares surging by 3.59% on Friday. Additionally, precious metals firm Fresnillo PLC FRES and paper/pulp company Mondi PLC MNDI experienced gains of 2.96% and 2.31% respectively.

Wholesalers and Gambling Industries Show Growth

RS Group PLC RS1, a wholesalers company, and Flutter Entertainment PLC FLTR, a gambling industries business, rounded out the top five largest increases with their stocks rallying by 2.30% and 1.75% respectively.

Currency and Commodity Markets

The pound showed a slight upward trend against the dollar, increasing by 0.16% to reach $1.2148. However, it experienced a marginal decline of 0.09% against the euro, reaching €1.1471.

Brent crude oil rallied by 0.9% to $87.80, while the yield on the 10-year gilt TMBMKGB-10Y fell by 6.800 basis points to 4.539%.
