Tropical Storm Franklin is closing in on the islands of Puerto Rico and Hispaniola, according to the National Hurricane Center. As of 11 a.m. EDT, the storm's center was approximately 240 miles south of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. It is moving west at a speed of 6 mph with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph.

Tropical-storm warnings have been issued for the southern coasts of both the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Additionally, these warnings are in effect for the north and east coasts of the Dominican Republic, as well as the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The NHC anticipates that the storm will sharply turn northward either later on Monday or early Tuesday.

Throughout the middle of this week, heavy rainfall from the storm is expected across parts of Puerto Rico and Hispaniola.

In other weather news, Tropical Storm Gert is located approximately 400 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands. It is currently heading west at a speed of about 8 mph. The NHC has mentioned that this storm has the potential to weaken at any moment.
