Introduction

In what can only be described as a remarkably silly episode, the much-hyped cage fight between Mark Zuckerberg, the billionaire CEO of Meta Platforms Inc., and Elon Musk, the even richer CEO of Tesla Inc., seems to have fizzled out before it even began. While the prospect of two emotionally stunted billionaires duking it out in a no-holds-barred MMA-style fight might have piqued some interest, it appears that the fight's demise was as anticlimactic as its inception.

A Fight That Existed Mostly in Musk's Imagination

Right from the start, it was clear that this so-called cage fight mostly lived within Elon Musk's imagination. Nevertheless, it managed to generate a media frenzy, as people were curious about the possibility of these two titans of industry settling their differences in such a dramatic fashion.

Online Bluster Brings an Abrupt End

However, it seems that all the bluster surrounding this proposed fight ultimately led to its demise. Musk, who had already resorted to numerous delaying tactics and openly admitted his lack of fitness and preparedness, reportedly reached out to Zuckerberg over the weekend with a surprising request for a "practice bout" before the real event.

Zuckerberg responded with a curt message, essentially telling Musk to either commit to a real fight or move on. He made it clear that he wasn't interested in continuing to hype up something that would never come to fruition. In a public burn on Meta's Threads, Zuckerberg declared, "I think we can all agree that Elon isn't serious and it's time to move on." He added that if Musk ever got serious about setting up an actual fight, he knew how to get in touch. Until then, Zuckerberg would be focusing on competing with people who took the sport seriously.

What Next for These Billionaires?

With this bizarre altercation now behind them, it remains to be seen how Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk will occupy their spare time. Presumably, they will find other pursuits to keep themselves occupied, although it's anyone's guess what those might be.

In unrelated news, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com Inc., and his fiancée made a significant $100 million donation to the Maui wildfire relief fund.
