Late Sunday night in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C., Secret Service agents assigned to protect Naomi Biden, the granddaughter of President Joe Biden, intervened when three individuals tried to break into their parked and unoccupied SUV. The law enforcement official, who spoke to the Associated Press on the condition of anonymity, revealed that the agents noticed the suspects breaking a window of the vehicle. In response, one of the agents discharged their weapon in an effort to stop the perpetrators, but fortunately, no one was injured.

Following the incident, the three individuals escaped the scene in a red car. As a result, the Secret Service issued a regional bulletin to alert the Metropolitan Police to be on the lookout for the suspects' vehicle.

It is worth noting that carjackings and car thefts have surged in Washington this year, with over 750 carjackings and more than 6,000 stolen vehicle reports in the district. In a similar incident just last month, U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar of Texas was carjacked near the Capitol by three armed assailants; thankfully, he was unharmed during the incident.

Moreover, violent crime rates in Washington have seen a significant rise compared to last year, with an overall increase of more than 40%. Earlier this year, U.S. Representative Angie Craig of Minnesota endured an assault in her apartment building, sustaining minor injuries while managing to escape serious harm.

The Secret Service continues its investigation into this attempted break-in, aiming to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety and security of President Biden's family in the nation's capital.
